Welcome to the show notes for the eighth episode of the Discussed It podcast. We are very excited to invite today’s guest onto our podcast, Andrew Gallimore. His name is Andrew Gallimore, he is a neurobiologist, chemist, and pharmacologist who is interested in looking at the relationships between psychedelic drugs, the brain, consciousness and the structure of reality. He is the author of the book: Alien Information Theory, where he collates his findings and thoughts. I hope you enjoy listening to our conversation as we touch on a range of topics throughout our time together.
We will also be finishing off the show with our ‘Thing’ of the Week, where Andrew will be letting us know what ‘Thing’ he has found interesting and exciting and is happy to share with Hayden and I. Make sure you stick around for that!
Within this episode, we:
- Talk to Andrew Gallimore, a neurologist, chemist and pharmacologist who looks at the relationships between psychedelic drugs, the brain, consciousness and the structure of reality.
- Discuss our ‘Thing Of The Week’
- and much more…
Below I have outlined the general gist of the questions and topics that we put over to Andrew to answer. However, throughout the episode, we go slightly off-piste with the conversation but we cover a range of topics that relate both directly to Rafael’s research and ideologies.
If you fancy finding out what Andrew’s insightful and interesting comments in reply to these questions then head over to this podcast episode and give it a listen. You won’t regret it! We go off on quite a few tangents in this week’s discussion so to hear answers to those bonus questions that arose go and give the episode a listen.
- Would you be able to tell us a bit more about yourself, where you’re from and what is that you do?
- What were your first experiences with psychedelic drugs? School/university? Where did your interest start?
- Differences between drugs/ different experiences?
- Can you tell us a bit about your book and your motivation to put pen to paper?
- The simulation theory is an ideology utilised in several films, do you like any of these interpretations and if so what is your favourite?
- What has drawn you to live in Japan?
- How would you like to be remembered?
In this week’s interview, we strayed from asking precise questions but launched our discussion surrounding the topics below. I was truly fascinated by what Andrew had to say and it opens your mind up to what may be possible.
- Topic: Aliens
- Topic: Alternate Universes – Idea Of Infinity
- Topic: CPU/Matrix Simulation
‘Thing’ Of The Week
As I am sure you know by now within this section of the podcast each of us will choose their favourite thing that we have seen over the week. This could be absolutely anything ranging from a product, food, architect etc. that has stuck in our minds. Most probably our ‘thing’ of the week will be utterly useless to yourself, but you never know. Of course, when we have a guest on the show we love to invite them to join us in this recurring segment. Read ahead to see what the three of us come up with and see whether you would be interested in any of them.
To kick off the proceedings I will reveal Andrew’s ‘Thing Of The Week’. His ‘Thing’ was the release of a CIA classified file that describes techniques used by the US military to manipulate the frequency of the brainwaves by playing certain beats through headphones. This idea behind the experiments is to manipulate the mind to communicate with different aspects of reality which is very similar to what Andrew is looking at doing with psychedelic drugs. This could suggest that there is some weight behind the possibility of this becoming a reality.
My ‘Thing Of The Week’ was the idea of “Minimalism”. I watched the Netflix documentary – Minimalism: A Documentary About The Important Things. This, as well as some prior interest in the ideology, has pushed me to question what I have and what I need and to learn that perhaps less is more. I’m trying to shift my mentality to buying premium quality products that will last but only if I need them and they individually bring me joy.
And to finish off this week’s ‘Thing’ Of The Week segment we have Hayden. Hayden’s ‘Thing’ was a podcast called “Architecture Den” which is a weekly architecture news show with features and reviews. The co-hosts Bill and Ben discuss a host of topics related to architecture. Some of the topics they break down are Architecture School, Money and Technology to name a few. Hayden highly recommends giving this podcast a listen if you are interested in architecture.
And, that wraps our episode featuring our third guest. Hayden and I thoroughly enjoyed having Andrew on the show and I am sure we will have him back on the podcast.
I highly recommend checking out Andrew’s website which is a treasure trove of information and you can find his book, courses and much more there.
I hope that the show notes have provided a further layer of communication between the two of us and you, our listeners, by providing additional information, but I’m sure it won’t beat listening to us chat away first hand. We hope that you enjoyed listening and will consider subscribing and making the Discussed It podcast a part of your weekly routine.
Happy listening, everyone!
